KUALA LUMPUR – PAS can forget about cooperating with Umno via Muafakat Nasional (MN) to face the next general election, said Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He said Umno has given PAS enough time to agree to the MN charter, and yet the Islamist party has not done so.
“It’s best that we forget about the intentions PAS spoke about,” Zahid told Bernama during a Raya event at the Umno building in Bagan Datuk, Perak.
PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan yesterday said uniting Malay-Muslims under the MN banner remains the best formula to improve national harmony, and that the proposal is open to any political party, civil society groups and individuals with similar goals.
When asked about possible disciplinary action against party veteran Tan Sri Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, Zahid said his party respects and is open to differing opinions.
“If the party’s disciplinary board wants to take action, it’s not just against him but others such as former leaders, parliamentarians and non-supreme council members.
“It is up to the disciplinary board to take any action it sees fit.”
Another Umno veteran, Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz on Thursday urged the disciplinary board to take action against Gua Musang MP Razaleigh for remaining in the independent bloc. – The Vibes, May 7, 2022
